Where Alan's Debt Recovery Journey Began
Alan Mills is a seasoned professional in the realms of Accountancy and Credit Control, whose journey in the industry began unexpectedly in the late 1980s. Initially aspiring to be an accountant, Alan found his niche in Credit Control at Alexander Mann Associates under the leadership of James Khan, located on Tottenham Court Road. It was here that Alan discovered his innate talent for negotiation and setting settlement terms, which propelled him to pursue further education in the field. He took evening classes with the Institute of Credit Management, enhancing his skills and paving the way to become a Credit Manager.
Credit Mangement Success
Throughout his career, Alan has held the position of Credit Manager in several prestigious global organisations, including Iron Mountain and Ethos Communication Solutions Limited, as well as various Councils in London. His expertise was particularly valuable in identifying cost-saving strategies for these organisations. He observed that many used their credit control teams only up to a certain point in the debt recovery process, after which costly solicitors were employed. At Ethos, Alan further advanced his career by completing a degree in Contract Law, empowering the organisation to handle delinquent debtors internally, thereby reducing dependency on external legal resources.
Starting his own Debt Recovery Agency
After a decade of successfully recovering debts for employers, Alan took the bold step in mid-2019 to establish his own venture, Equilibrium Debt Recovery Limited. His company specialises in assisting small businesses with the recovery of outstanding invoices and debts. Under his leadership, Equilibrium has impressively recovered over £2.5 million for its clients, all the while ensuring that their brand integrity remains intact.

Alan’s expertise, however, extends beyond mere debt recovery. He places a significant emphasis on debt prevention, educating clients on strategies to avoid unpaid invoices.
